It's a 28 degree day in Cape Town. I am sitting on my couch, a box of tissues at hand and my fourth bout of flu since May this year. I am feeling a bit better though. Normally flu or no flu I get up and go to work, I take one for the team, but I think four bouts of flu is my body's way of telling me to slow down for a bit. I wanted a place where I could document the dreams I am chasing. I am normally a bit of bubble person, by that I mean I live in a bubble, I have a six year old car with only 62 000kms on it which is nothing and this is because my life is in this bubble. My sister lives 7kms away from where I do, my best friend 3kms away, work is 10km away, the nearest shopping centre is about 2kms down the road. I stay at home and my sense of adventure has always been muted by a sense of caution, until I decided to list my goals and found three that on the surface seemed hard to achieve but actually all it needed was courage.
It's hard to believe it was just over a year ago that I discovered the brilliance that is Marillion. I had always known about the band, who hasn't heard Kayleigh (if you're saying I haven't visit this link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18-zKjXLB98 chances are the tune at the very least will ring a bell). What I didn't realise is that Marillion created many, many, many, many brilliant pieces of music since then. Last year I discovered just what I was missing and became instantly addicted to Marillion, it's been almost the only thing I play in my car, and I really wanted to see them live. The thing about living in South Africa is not to many people know about Marillion at least not their current work, I think that I am possibly the only person here to own a Copy of Happiness is the road (the new Marillion CD), so Marillion live in Cape Town wasn't going to happen. As fate has it they have bi-annual convention in Holland, and I have friends in Holland so after a lot of pondering and a bit of convincing, I booked my ticket for the Marillion week end. That was the first step.
Another dream of mine was to see Cirque du Soleil live, and another dream was to visit Ireland. For these two dreams I killed two birds with one stone. Cirque du Soleil is showing in Dublin a week after the Marillion week end. I almost have my ticket for that a friend of mine is booking that for me as a gift.
So this is one of the dreams I intend chasing. Here I am at it's beginning.
